We are so excited to announce that the Louisiana Children's Discovery Center has entered into a sponsorship covering a 17 parish region of Louisiana to offer children in our area an opportunity to advance to the Scripps National Spelling Bee!


It's been a long time coming but the sponsor is finally here to give your school a chance to be represented in the National Spelling Bee!

More About the Bee...

Scripps National Spelling Bee Now you can send your 4th-8th grade students to the Scripps National Spelling Bee!
It has been a long time since students in our area had the opportunity to advance to the Spelling Bee but now you can and it's so easy!

Prizes:

• One Samuel Louis Sugarman Award Certificate donated by Mr. Jay Sugarman: This prize is a $100 U.S. savings bond designated specifically for your champion. This certificate is not an actual savings bond. Champion will receive the savings bond in June.
• Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary, Eleventh Edition donated by Merriam-Webster:
• Three one-year subscriptions to Britannica Online for Kids donated by Encyclopædia Britannica. One subscription will be for the Champion.
• Two $20 Amazon.com gift certificates donated by the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
• Participation Certificates
• Trophy for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners


Here's how you can participate:

1. Visit the Scripps National Spelling Bee website & register by 10/17/11. The fee is $109 which includes a long list of resources & tools to help you!
2. Hold your school-level spelling bee to select a winner by 1/15/11.
3. Send your champion to the LCDC Spelling Bee (date TBA but will be between 2/1/12 and 3/28/12.

The winner of the LCDC Spelling Bee will advance to the Sripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, DC with an all expenses paid trip for the champion and one adult chaperone.
